Dr. Murielle Richard

Scientific assistant (external to the HAL in the mechanical group)

Biography

Murielle Richard obtained her Master of Science in Microengineering from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2008, specialising in robotics, autonomous systems, machine learning and mechanical design. In 2012, she completed her PhD in Production Systems and Robotics at the same university. Her thesis proposed a new modular concept for designing very high-precision parallel robots, which she applied to produce a 5-degree-of-freedom robot with an accuracy of 50 nm. She then joined ETA Manufacture Horlogère SA, where her activities included the industrialisation of new products, the development of assembly machines, and the continuous improvement of automated production lines. She also developed compliant mechanisms for assembly and machining machines, as well as high-precision measurement systems, some of which have been patented. Since 2022, she has been part of the Mechanical Engineering Research Group within the Industrial Systems Institute of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis. Its areas of research include mechanical design, high-precision mechanics, industrial robotics and the development of automated processes.
