Biography

Samuel Rey-Mermet is a Swiss engineer and researcher specialising in materials and the sustainability of energy systems. He holds a doctorate from EPFL, and during his thesis he developed innovative technologies combining microfabrication and advanced ceramic materials. After several years at HYDRO Exploitation SA, where he was in charge of risk analysis, investment optimisation and assessing the serviceability of hydroelectric plant components, he joined the HES-SO Valais-Wallis in 2015 as a professor. He co-directs the Hydro Alps Lab, where he is responsible for activities related to condition monitoring and the study of material ageing. His work aims to improve the reliability, safety and sustainability of energy production infrastructures.
