Dr. Olivier Pacot

Biography

Olivier Pacot is a mechanical engineer who graduated from EPFL in 2009 with a specialisation in aero- and hydrodynamics. In 2014, he completed a thesis on rotating separation in pump-turbines, studied using LES simulations and high-performance computing. After a post-doctorate at the University of Tokyo on cavity flows, he joined the hydroelectricity group at the HES-SO Valais-Wallis in 2018. There, he works on the numerical simulation of turbines and gates, the sizing of small power plants and topographical analysis to assess the potential for energy storage. At the Hydro Alps Lab, he is developing tools for analysing massive data, particularly acoustic data, applied to diagnostics using machine learning. He also contributes to project management and teaches wind energy.
