{"id":2052,"date":"2026-03-30T09:36:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T09:36:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hydroalpslab.ch\/?p=2052"},"modified":"2026-03-30T13:08:55","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T13:08:55","slug":"final-workshop-smallflex-goms-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hydroalpslab.ch\/en\/workshop-final-projet-smallflex-goms\/","title":{"rendered":"Final workshop - SmallFLEX Goms project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Flexibility of medium-sized and small Alpine power stations <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hydro Alps Lab is pleased to invite you to the final workshop of the project <strong>SmallFLEX Goms<\/strong>, The SFOE's pilot and demonstrator project is dedicated to the flexibility of small and medium-sized hydroelectric power stations and their role in the energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The consortium<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The SmallFLEX Goms project brings together a leading academic and industrial consortium, coordinated by the Hydro Alps Lab (HES-SO Valais-Wallis), in collaboration with :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WSL (Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ETH Z\u00fcrich (VAW)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HEIG-VD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hydropower Dynamics Engineering (HDE)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>FMV SA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alpiq<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This partnership combines scientific expertise, advanced modelling and industrial validation in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Against a backdrop of high penetration of intermittent renewable energies, the SmallFLEX Goms project is exploring how to <strong>increasing the flexibility of run-of-river hydroelectric plants<\/strong>, which are often not considered to be very flexible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim is to better integrate hydropower into a changing energy system, particularly in Switzerland, where it is a major pillar of supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project has three main focuses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Exploiting \u201chidden\u201d storage\u201d<\/strong> in existing penstocks and structures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Advanced hydrometeorological forecasts<\/strong> to optimise management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Energy hybridization<\/strong> with photovoltaics, wind power and storage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The work carried out in the Goms valley has shown that these plants can :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>increase their winter production<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>provide system services (in particular primary control)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improve their profitability and integration into the network<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The results also show the benefits of grouping several facilities together in the same <strong>virtual power plants (VPP)<\/strong> to aggregate flexibilities and access energy markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workshop programme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This workshop will present the main results of the project and the prospects for wider deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme will include<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Presentation of the project and the consortium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Results of the various work packages (modelling, forecasts, experimental trials)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feedback on test campaigns (particularly at the M\u00f6rel power station)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discussion of industrial applications and system services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Future prospects and next steps in the project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practical information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udcc5 <strong>Date<\/strong> 5 May 2026 from 1 to 5.30 p.m. followed by a tour of the laboratory and an aperitif dinner.<br>\ud83d\udccd <strong>Location<\/strong> Aula, Energypolis, rue de l'industrie 23, 1950 Sion<br>\ud83d\udd52 Format: technical workshop with presentations and discussions in English<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Registration information is available at <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/pages\/responsepage.aspx?id=JPdyo7LAoE6r-w64xvhOQHMl5F6kTkhItolpVULXEMBUMTZSWlNMUkNaVzNROFpPWFVCMElWSjNFTS4u&amp;route=shorturl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flexibilit\u00e9 des moyennes et petites centrales alpines Le Hydro Alps Lab a le plaisir de vous inviter au workshop final du projet SmallFLEX Goms, projet Pilote et D\u00e9monstrateur de l&rsquo;OFEN, d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 la flexibilit\u00e9 des petites et moyennes centrales hydro\u00e9lectriques et \u00e0 leur r\u00f4le dans la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique.
