Maxime Chiarelli

Alumni- Former doctoral student

Biography

Maxime Chiarelli obtained a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from HEIA-FR, followed by a Master's degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Berne. He then completed a doctorate at HAL, the Swiss College of Engineering, in collaboration with ETHZ, focusing on the influence of typical damage to Pelton turbines on their vibratory behaviour. His research focused on the impact of hydro-abrasive erosion and cracking on the vibration modes of Pelton wheels, with the aim of developing predictive maintenance tools based on vibration analysis. His work was based on experimental measurement campaigns carried out in several hydroelectric power stations, supplemented by finite element numerical simulations. He currently holds a dual position as test engineer and hydraulic project engineer at Andritz Hydro in Vevey.
