Alumni - Former doctoral student

Biography

Daniel Biner has spent his entire scientific career in the hydroelectricity group and then in the Hydro Alps Lab. He first worked there as a research assistant before pursuing a doctorate in collaboration with the EPFL, which he defended at the end of 2024. His work focused on the fatigue assessment of a variable-speed reversible pump-turbine, combining CFD simulations and finite-element analysis (FEM), as well as on-board measurements on a prototype. His areas of expertise include mechanical design, hydroacoustic modelling, CFD, structural analysis, prototype testing, deformation measurements and fatigue calculations. He is currently a hydromechanical engineer at Hydropower Dynamics Engineering SA.
