Ali Amini

With a BSc (2013) and MSc (2015) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tehran, Ali Amini pursued a PhD in Mechanics at EPFL in Switzerland. His thesis, which was awarded the Ryhming 2020 prize for the best thesis in fluid mechanics, focused on the study of cavitation in hydraulic machines. He then did his first post-doc at EPFL on flow instabilities in a Francis turbine, followed by a second at HES-SO in the Hydro Alps Lab team (2021-2023) as a data scientist, where he developed hybrid approaches combining advanced experimental measurements and machine learning algorithms for «smart condition monitoring» and predictive maintenance of hydraulic turbines, the results of which were published in Applied Energy. He is now Head of Core Team Field Testing in Andritz Hydro's R&D department.
